Contracts Warrior
You've heard of courtroom dramas, but often the real drama happens way before anyone steps foot in court. For civil litigators, like me, at least, it is in the contracts. 🤯
As a commercial litigator, I'm like a "contract warrior." That sounds crazy, I'm sure--and it would have sounded crazy to the 1L version of me who got her worst law school grade in first semester contracts. But, today, I help clients pursue and defend claims often arising out of a contract's fine print.
That's where the feuds are born. A missed deadline here, an unfulfilled obligation there, and BAM: you've got a breach of contract situation brewing.
Every day, I spend time developing arguments to explain a client's claims or defenses, reviewing documents to find evidence supporting our positions, drafting memos or letters in support of same, and pleading the case to skeptical judges (or mediators or arbitrators) who have likely seen it all. There's also a good dose of strategizing with my colleagues and teammates.
Contracts are a--no, the--critical part of business relationships. Defending and pursuing contract rights is high stakes, even thrilling (for me, at least). Even if it is a "paper battle," it is often high pressure and fast paced. And: I love it. I may not always find litigation to be fulfilling, but, for now, I very, very much do.
