Master Case Chart

Here's another chart for y'all--my master case chart.**

My calendar reminds me, every Thursday, to update this chart. (I bill 0.2 to investment time, not a .1 to every case I update.)

It lists all my active matters, who is on the team, case name and matter number, deadlines (past and future), and any notes I want to keep in mind.

I pull it up during calls and meetings when I need to quickly find the deadline or next action item.

I circulate it to team members when I'm about to leave for vacation, so they know the case status and who else might be able to help while I'm gone.

Part of my "matter opening" or "joining a team" ritual is to add the case to this chart.

Yes--I use word, because I'm old school and like to keep it every simple. If you prefer excel, have at it. An online app like Asana or Planner? Chart away.

What matters is that you develop a system--a personalized one--that helps you stay on top of all the things vying for your time.

Because: those things, personal and professional, will increase year over year. The sooner you figure out your best, individualized way to keep track, the better.

How do you track your caseload?
