Not Alone

I love a reminder that I’m not alone.

Last night, at 940 PM, the fire alarms went off in our building.

Stunned awake, from a deep sleep (that I’ve struggled to find this week), I slowly got up. We got the dogs and went outside.

I worry about everything.

Like, “I can’t let my neighbors know I had already been asleep … for some time.”

And yet, as soon as we gathered with our neighbors, after some love for the many pups standing with us, it happened:

Several of us laughed about how we had been asleep.

A couple of us even laughed about how early we go to bed.

Phew.

I’m not alone.

You are not alone either.

If you’re struggling today, yesterday, tomorrow: you are not alone.

Life is hard.

Work is a lot.

The world is chaotic.

Personally and professionally, it can be so easy to tell ourselves: I’m the only one who feels this way.

That is a lie our brains tell us.

It is false.

You are not alone.

You don’t need to have it all together.

No one does.

No one does.
