Tennis Lesson

Life lesson from the tennis court:

When I start missing the ball (particularly in the net), it is almost always because I’m trying too hard, because I’m overthinking it, because I’m moving too fast.

To recover, I relax—my brain, my grip, my swing power and speed.

This is also 100% me at work.

When I start making mistakes, it is almost always because I’m trying too hard, because I’m overthinking things, because I’m moving too fast.

To recover, I pause—I walk away, take a break, slow down. I reorganize myself and my thoughts and try to report back afresh.

It is much harder for me in the real world than on the tennis court, but I find that catching myself in the moment and giving myself grace to recover is the best first step.
