Take a Break
How will you take a break today?
Yesterday, I said I could not add another meeting to the day (after nearly 5 hours of meetings straight).
What did I do instead?
I worked out.
That is always a big deal for me:
To say to myself, “This can wait. Do something for yourself.”
Today, when you feel on the edge of your productive wall, ask yourself, “Can this wait?”
And then:
♥️ Listen to your favorite song;
♥️ Go for a walk around the building or your floor;
♥️ Read eight pages of a book;
♥️ Grab a cup of coffee and check on a coworker (by IM or IRL);
♥️ Take a nap;
♥️ Work out;
♥️ Run an errand; or
♥️ Hang with your pet.
The options are endless and as quick or long as you feel time allows.
We cannot be our best at work if we push ourselves to the brink all day every day.
Listen to your brain and body.
They’ll tell you what you need.
They’ll tell you what can wait.
