The Grace Period + The Billable Hour

Season 2 of The Grace Period drops in six weeks, with three introductory trailers starting in three weeks.

Until then, let's revisit two episodes from Season 1: Defining the Billable Hour (https://shorturl.at/XPTwM) and Tracking the Billable Hour (https://shorturl.at/pduTK).

So many go into #biglaw blind. If you do well in law school, you're thrust into on campus interviews (OCIs), and pushed toward the local area's biggest and/or most prestigious firms, which, in turn, dole out summer associate spots to a luck few.

Along the way, few are clued into the requirement of billing your time in 0.1 increments--until you're in it, until you're doing the work and supposed to be billing your time.

I did not learn about the specifics of the billable hour—much less how to track it—until a couple months into my first big law job. I joined in May, but the associate orientation wasn’t until that fall. So, although I was told to bill my time, I had to seek out resources about what that looked like, what it meant, and how to implement it.

These episodes highlight the goal of this podcast—to pull back the veil on big law and share information that will help people go into big law eyes wide open and/or avoid some of the hiccups I faced as an associate.

Season 2 of The Grace Period will premier on September 24. Until then, I encourage you—if you haven’t already—to check out Season 1, where I defined big law and the billable hour, and also provided concrete tips and tricks to managing your time and your practice so that you can succeed in big law and create a more sustainable path.
