Barside Podcast Shoutout

Yesterday, I learned that Cece Xie, Matt Margolis, and Alex Su discuss my "2400 all-in billable hours" post on their podcast, Barside (Ep 5: Insignificant Law Energy).

This is not a small moment for me. In fact, it feels rather surreal.

Some takeaways:

🤯 The billable hours is bumpy. Yes, I map out monthly, weekly, and daily goals, but it is ultimately an average. Some days I will bill more, some days I will bill less, but by mapping it out, I will hit the target, on average.

🤯 Billing a lot is (a) not always fun, but (b) not impossible. These hours are very real, and very doable--even without breaking ethical rules or padding bills or defrauding clients or working every single day of the week.

🤯 Particularly for litigators, the billable hour may not go away as fast as we want. It makes sense for a lot of what we do--given the unpredictability of litigation. That is reality and even okay. We can rattle for change and make our current reality more sustainable--both can be true.

🤯 Personal/professional branding works. These three hosts are big names in the lawyer social media landscape. Having CeCe say my name to start the episode blew my mind. Hearing Alex congratulate me on making partner, and call me kind, brings me such pride. That Matt even knows who I am, you know, whoa. Do not be afraid to think outside the box. Do not be afraid to chart your own course here. Find your voice and stick with it. I have and it has led to some incredible things.
