Billable Hour Check In (March 2024)
March 1, 2024 -- time for my monthly (trigger warning) #billablehour check in.
My all-in number (billable and non-billable commitment) is 2400 hours a year.
I am right on track, meaning: I need to hit 200 hours all in this month.
March is a long month--giving us 21 working days, all of which it looks like I can bill or invest a full day, each day.
So, my daily goal? 9.6 hours per day--or 48 hours per week.
This time around, a good chunk of that will be investment time, as most of next week I'll be at HB University (HBU) for part two of three of new-partner orientation.
After that, it should be a big billing month, and I'm really excited about the work I have on my plate and the teams I'm working with to get it all done.
When I exceed 9.6, I'll shave time off the next day, or the rest of the week, or the rest of the month.
When I miss 9.6, I'll add time to the next day, or the rest of the week, or the rest of the month--or I'll put in some weekend hours to stay on track.
When some of these hoped-for full billing days inevitably turn into half-billing days, I'll adjust accordingly.
Being a partner is a commitment. Being an owner of the firm grows that commitment and keeps me really motivated--to hit my billable targets, yes (of course), but also to keep investing in myself, my business, my teams, and my firm.
Let's do this.
