Client Expectations
Let’s talk about client expectations. Three are top of mind for civil litigation:
1️⃣ It is going to be a longer, slower process than you’d like. It almost never goes as quickly as you want. Impatience is normal.
2️⃣ It is going to be more expensive than you’d like. There will be several junctures where you’ll need to evaluate whether to keep paying the attorney(s) or try to pay to resolve the case. Discomfort with cost (and compromise) is normal.
3️⃣ No one, not even the most experienced counsel, can predict the outcome. We work in a system of humans doing human things. Humans (courts, juries, litigants, you name it) are unpredictable. Wanting a guarantee is normal. Getting a guarantee should not happen.
What other client expectations do you manage regularly?
