General Local Rule 26

In a case with numerous depositions, do you number exhibits sequentially across all deps or do you restart the numbering with each witness?

You might want to check your local rules before making that decision--or sticking with a long held preference, or giving in to opposing counsel's method.

In the Eastern District of Wisconsin, General Local Rule 26 mandates sequential numbering of exhibits:

"Documents identified as exhibits during the course of depositions, other pretrial proceedings, and at trial should be numbered sequentially."

And:

"When practicable, only one exhibit number should be assigned to a document or physical object throughout the course of the action."

Our Court has lots of local rules, and really great guidance within those rules. It makes practicing in our District a little less stressful and a lot more predictable, two things I appreciate.
