Masculine and Feminine Energy
Have you ever considered “masculine energy” and “feminine energy”?
We have each within us.
Varying situations require one, or the other, or both, and we use what the situation requires.
Masculine energy is defined by doing:
"Doing, urgent, active, logical, controlling, analytical, external . . . Do you know what these have in common? They represent masculine energy. I feel, a lot of people are constantly in that energy. In addition, they are constantly in hustle mode, constantly struggling, constantly overdoing & overworking." -- Isabelle Havers
These verbs dominate my life.
I’m pretty good at these things.
The legal profession demands them of us.
I have worked most of my life by doing, making everything urgent and active, leaning on logic, looking for control, and overanalyzing.
Although I've felt comfortable in the more masculine-energy spheres, I've also wondered:
"Why am I so tired?" and "Why am I not enjoying work like I once did?"
The answer: My masculine energy was pushing my feminine energy aside.
Over the past two and a half years, I've turned inward: meditating, visioning, affirming, pausing, setting boundaries.
I've looked for ways to be in flow, to be creative, and to be more gentle.
In turn, my feminine energy has increased.
My feminine energy has come into more of a balance with the more masculine energy.
I still don't know what it looks like to try to draw more and more on my feminine energy as a corporate litigator, as a #BigLaw attorney, but I'm trying to figure it out.
I know I'm happier--more content--when I'm using both sides of myself, when drawing on both types of energy.
