No Typical Day
Hi, Emily, As a litigation associate, what's your typical work day look like? Sincerely, Future Litigator
--
Hi, Future Litigator,
I don't have a typical day.
This used to really grind my gears.
I like to plan.
I like to prepare.
The ups and downs of litigation is hard to get used to.
The numerous meetings often interrupt deep work.
Nothing--except (most) court deadlines--is set in stone.
You're often reacting to emergencies and new questions.
This used to really, truly stress me out.
Routine is my safety net.
Honestly, it hasn't gotten easier for me.
Sometimes it still does (like this very week).
But, now, I'm used to it.
I take it one day at a time.
I look to tomorrow at the end of each day and again in the morning.
I sketch--loosely--next month as the current one closes.
I implement tools that help me breathe, find productivity in the chaotic times, and enjoy the slower days.
And I prepare: for the unpredictable.
