One Speed

One speed.

Sometimes I feel like I operate on one speed.

For example, yesterday, I had an appointment at 8 AM.

Before that, I tried to squeeze in a couple errands.

Necessary? Absolutely not.

Taking time off is a strange thing.

I felt the weight lifting last weekend as I faced a week off from work.

I like what I do. I love what I do a lot of the time.

And yet, the relief I felt with time off on the horizon was very, very real.

I clearly--mentally and physically--needed a break.

But even so, there have been moments where I've felt the habit of squeezing in as much as possible to each minute of each day kick in, and kick in hard.

So, when I've felt the squeeze, I've tried to pause and ask, "What must get done?" and "What do I actually want to do today?"

I still have four open, spacious days ahead of me.

I look forward to enjoying the time and trying to squeeze less into each one.
