Opening Ritual

I try to do the same thing to start each work day--my opening ritual:

🔓 complete some or part of "The Miracle Morning"--meditation, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading for fun, gratitude journal;

🔓 review emails that came in overnight--delete, address quick ones, code and prioritize on today's (or tomorrow's) to-do list;

🔓 review the calendar, confirming I know what's coming up today;

🔓 review the to do-list, prioritize or rank tasks, and dive in.

This ritual, or routine, helps me know it is time to get started--I shift into work mode.

This helps me manage my time and stay on top of what is important each day.

It helps me make fewer decisions and exercise autonomy over my day. I cannot stop surprises or emergencies, but I can create space for them by staying on top of things via my opening (and closing) ritual.

Opening rituals also help reduce procrastination and distractions: you have a clear plan or mission for the day.

It gives me time to make sure that what I'm doing is moving matters--and my goals--forward.

Like a closing ritual, an opening ritual is personal. The point is to find something that kick starts your workday by creating purpose, clarity, and focus.

By being consistent with it, I improve my productivity and my attitude about work. It empowers me to take on the day as I see fit and as the day requires.
