Strengths

There's a couple things I've been good at from a pretty young age: being organized and managing my time.

When I first entered Midwest #biglaw, it wasn't clear to me how I could utilize those skills to build a career.

Sure, they helped me create systems, hit my billable hour targets, and generally stay on top of things.

But how could they translate into finding more work--and unique work that suits my strengths?

Enter: project management.

This is not something most people think of when they think of corporate litigation.

But: the law is one large group project, so harnessing certain skills allows me to thrive--I can take on greater roles and I can be more fulfilled, as I use my individual strengths each day.

Now, I look for ways to:

📋 plan, execute, manage;

📋 monitor, update, and move forward;

📋 organize, problem solve, and adapt.

It won't shock some of you that this really shines in eDiscovery and document management.

High-volume litigation is another place my skills shine.

And generally, coordinating teams and managing deadlines--keeping things pressing ahead.

For some, that's not the shiny, sophisticated place to work. Good for them.

For me: it is where I can dig in, use my strengths, and be more content in the work.

No law job is one size fits all. Keep searching until you find an office, practice group, or role that allows you to bring your strengths to the table and that supports the development of those strengths are you progress in your career.

This is not an impossibility.
