We make the trek back to Wisconsin today (leaving Atlanta at 430 AM ET).

Early dawn in northern Georgia and sunrise over the mountains outside Chattanooga is beautiful.

I will miss the green of Georgia’s deciduous forest.

I never knew how much I loved these trees, how much a part of me they are, until I moved away.

Leaving home is always bittersweet.

I love my life in Wisconsin, but a part of me will always be in the South.

I will always identify as Southern (all of its contradictions included)—an identification I wasn’t sure of until I moved away (the first time to Arizona, where I experienced intense culture shock).

This vacation did me well. A mid-year refresh, as I close out another associate year.

I am ready for what’s to come.
