Sunday Reset
#SundayReset
Some of the crazy in my life, I bring on myself.
Like waking up at 415 AM on a Saturday and driving the whole day to Atlanta, with two dogs (one very much a puppy).
But I love long drives.
Cross-country drives used to mean big life changes.
GA > AZ for Teach For America.
AZ > MS for Law School.
MS > WI for my clerkship.
During the pandemic, I started driving home to GA from WI.
I’ve lost count of how many trips I’ve made since summer 2020.
I don’t always do it in one day.
We’ve split the trip with stops in Louisville, Nashville, and Lexington.
Here are my favorite parts:
✌🏻 Occasionally Maps routes me right through downtown Chicago. I love that city and approaching the skyline, driving through, and observing the change from big city to big industry is pretty cool.
✌🏻 When you turn south in Indiana. Nothing feels more like the heartland than the miles and miles of beautiful farmland.
✌🏻 Kentucky. I don’t think anything on the drive is more beautiful than Kentucky. When you cross the Ohio River into Louisville it’s like magic: hills and hollers appear and the green is exuberant year round.
✌🏻 South of Nashville, headed into Chattanooga, you get the Appalachian Foothills. This signals I’m almost home. It reminds me of (and takes me close to) where I went to summer camp. Yesterday, the lakes and rivers were full of boats. Glorious.
✌🏻 Let’s be honest: even though I moved away from GA for college and never looked back, there’s just something about coming home. And the faster drivers makes the last hour a little quicker.
This morning I got to sit in my parents’ backyard, watching my dogs play. It’s good to be home and I’m grateful the new hybrid world makes these trips possible.
