Uni Tongue

#SundayReset

I had uni tongue at dinner last night.

Urchin tongue is not something I’d ever heard of until last night.

I wouldn’t say I was a picky eater growing up, I just stuck to the basics.

Trying new things at restaurants stressed me out.

Someone else was paying, and, if I didn’t like it, I was very concerned about wasting their money.

I’m not sure when I started adventuring with food.

Maybe it was my first time having Indian food in 2008–or starting to eat sushi during law school (and Thai food, and then oysters).

When I moved to Milwaukee, I coincidentally met another federal clerk doing laundry in the basement of our apartment building.

She was a foodie, to say the least.

She took me to all her favorite dining spots in Milwaukee, and I guess I’ve really never looked back.

People say leopards don’t change their spots.

But, I have. Many times.

Who I am today is wildly different from what high school Emily would have ever dreamed of.

In big ways and in small ways—like with food.

It’s fun to grow and evolve.

I’d have missed a lot of deliciousness over the last 10-15 years if I hadn’t been willing to change.

And maybe my outward food growth is a reflection of the changes I’ve made on the inside.

I look forward to evolving forward from here.
