Alone

I like being alone.

Phew. It’s good to admit this.

Yes, I’m married.

I love my husband.

And I’m an introvert.

I get my best rest and recharge when I’m by myself.

Both things can be true.

He’s ice fishing this weekend, so I’m alone.

And it is glorious.

Yesterday, I worked from home, alone, and happily recovered from extra socialization at the firm holiday party (which was a joy).

Tonight, I’m taking myself to a fancy dinner and to see The Nutcracker.

Tomorrow, who knows?

I think a lot about masking these days.

Some people would be shocked to learn I’m an introvert (because I’m outgoing and not shy).

I can put on a good face in social situations (until I can’t).

But, I live for moments of solace, to fully rest and recover.

I’m learning to embrace every part about me. This is who I am and sometimes I just need a break from people.

When my husband returns, I’ll be better suited to engage with him, and the same goes for work on Monday.

How do you take care of yourself—in a way that serves your unique self?
