Flowers

I buy myself flowers.

It’s a small thing I’ve done since moving to Milwaukee to make my place feel like home.

Until Thanksgiving, though, I’d never bought myself roses.

That flower has some societal meaning around it and without much thought I accepted that and never bought them for myself.

At Thanksgiving, the dark red roses were perfect for a special vase my mom got us for our anniversary.

So pretty that when they died I replaced them with, you guessed it, more roses.

I may never go back.

I find such joy in these little things.
